Dear Neighbors and Friends:

Many of you are aware that 14 years ago I founded a 3 day, 54-hole amateur golf tournament that is held each Memorial Day weekend at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. This tournament has become a nationally and world ranked amateur event by Golf Week magazine and the R&A World Amateur Rankings. It attracts the finest amateur golfers throughout the U.S. and world. To be eligible as a contestant your handicap index must be 1.7 (that’s one point seven) or better.

As a result of many out of town contestants, I am asked about the availability of families that might host their stay during the event and become a host family. Two local families (Allan/Nancy Davis and Bill/Terry Thomas) have been gracious enough to accommodate several golfers over the years. I mention this because if asked I believe they would give a thumbs up to their personal experiences.

Many of the contestants are college students who play for national college golf teams but who are not 21 years old. This becomes a problem for them logistically because of their inability to rent a car. One reason for seeking out host families close to the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course is to minimize this problem. Some of the colleges and Universities that have been represented are Notre Dame University, Texas A&M, University of Texas, Oklahoma University, Columbia University, San Jose State, UC Berkeley, University of San Francisco, Ohio Wesleyan, Georgia Tech, University of New Mexico, Saint Mary’s, University of Minnesota, Southern Methodist University, Oregon, Washington State University and the University of Tulsa,
