Dear Neighbors,

As you all know, our county is continually being hit with budget cuts and reduction in services and programs that are being cut back or eliminated all together.

Unfortunately, this has meant that home and car break-ins, burgarlaries and general safety and security issues are becoming an increasing problem and concern within Carmichael Colony Neighborhood Assoc boundaries. I am receiving reports of crime and activity on almost a weekly basis. This is even happening in gated communities.

If there was ever a time to be vigilant and connected with neighbors in your community, the time is now. Starting a Neighborhood watch program, having block parties on your street to get to know your neighbors and reporting unusual activity are just a few ways to help in keeping our community safe. If you have a security/alarm system, use it…even if you’re heading to the store for just a minute. Now that the weather is hot, there is a tendency to leave windows and doors open, so be sensible about that. Make an effort to meet and know your neighbor and look out for one another. If something does not seem right or if you know something is out of place, you must be vigilant and use your best judgment; please just don’t go inside your home and wait for someone else to call or take care of the problem.

Lastly, I can’t stress the importance of reporting crime, break-ins and burgarlaries in your neighborhood. The county sheriff department uses those reports and statistic to keep track of problem areas and to know where to focus their efforts. Without reporting even the smallest of incidences, we’ll never get a step ahead of the crime.

If you have a crime or incident to report, you can go to www.sacsheriff.com and file a report. You can also use this site to track reported incidents in certain areas.

Enjoy the summer and most of all be safe.

Moka Davis,
President
Carmichael Colony Neighborhood Association
